Nice Review in the Spring 2012 issue of Signal to Noise Magazine
My newest album, "There" received a great review in the latest issue of Signal to Noise Magazine.
Sometimes the best way to honor a tradition is to take its tenets at face value and simply play the hell out of them...that is what the Ernesto Cervini Quartet does on There (Anzic.)
Recorded at a November 2010 date at Cory Weeds' Cellar Jazz Club in Vancouver, There crackles with bandstand camaraderie and joy of shared discovery. Tenor player Joel Frahm is particularly inspired. Ideas tumble out of his horn in giddy streams that leap and loop back in on themselves. He hardly concludes a phrase before another pushes the first one along like kids in the cafeteria lunch line. The Toronto-based leader has a beguiling compositional voice and is all energy behind the kit and his mates, Adrean Farrugia (piano) and Dan Loomis (bass) are with him every step of the way. A clear, honest live recording places the listener roughly at a table in the center of the first row, which is a pretty nice place to be. - John Chacona (Signal to Noise Magazine)
